Harmonising Chin Qi and Tzuo Qi
Cultivating Qi in the Tan Tien
Stand in Ma Bu, place hand on Tan Tien. Relax the body. Breath in slowly, straightening the legs slightly; breath out slowly, bending down into the knees.
Moving the Qi up and down
Stand in Ma Bu, separating the hands. Palms must face upwards and fingertips point towards each other. Hands must be close to Tan Tien. Breath in slowly, raising hands from the Tan Ten to the chest – Qi Hu point. As you breath in, slowly straighten the legs. Breath out, slowly turning the palms down so that He Gu point on the hands faces the Qi Hu point. Lower hands back to Tan Tien and bend the knees slightly.
This is good for the lungs, increases breathing and stimulates the Tan Tien.
Open and close Tan Tien
Stand in Ma Bu, with hands facing Tan Tien as if holding a small ball. Breath in by turning palms out, thumbs pointing down and push hands forward and out. Straighten the legs slightly. Breath out by turning the palms in and bring hands back in towards the Tan Tien as if squeezing the Qi into the Tan Tien. Bend the legs slightly.
This helps stimulate the Tan Tien.
Elegant lady turns the waist
Stand in Ma Bu, put hands on the back over the kidneys. Keep legs straight. Rotate waist six times in a clockwise direction, and six times anti-clockwise.
This helps the back and the kidneys.
Dragon head turns and twists its tail
Stand in Ma Bu, lean to the left while raising right arm and straighten the left leg. Keep the right leg slightly bent. Breath out when changing to the opposite side. Repeat again.
This helps the kidneys and helps to lose weight.
Peeping Monkey
Stand in Ma Bu, shift the weight and lean into the left and bend and relax the right leg . Raise the left arm with fingers touching the Ya Men point at the back of the neck. At the same time, bring the left hand to the back so the He Gu point can touch Ming Men. Repeat on the opposite side.
This helps stimulate the Du channels. The Lao Kung point transmits energy to Ya Men. It heals backache and helps straighten the spine.
Big Bear stretches
Stand in Ma Bu, open chest and lift up shoulders – breath in. Roll shoulders forwards and down, while closing the chest. Bend the neck, back and knees, relaxing the arms. Breath out.
This helps the internal organs move, concentrating on the heart and the stomach. It strengthens the spine, shoulders and neck.
Crane extends its wings
Stand in Ma Bu, raise arms out to the side with palms facing forwards. Lean forward and close arms until hands cross over. Breath in. Lean back, bending the elbows and knees and open the chest. Breath out.
This helps strengthen the heart and lungs and helps lift depression.
Supporting the sky
Stand in Ma Bu, hold hands in front of Tan Tien, palms facing up. Raise hands up past the front of the chest so that palms face the body. Breath in. As the hands reach the face, turn the palms outwards and stretch arms up. Open arms out to side and lower them down, while bending down slightly in the knees. Breath out.
This is good for the lungs and backache.
Crane stepping in the clouds
Stand in Ma Bu, lift left arm as if lifting a ball in the hand and bring right leg up with bent knee. Bring the knee up past the hip. Keep the supporting leg slightly bent. Breath in. Lightly step forward with the right leg. With the left palm open, press the hand down with the fingers up and breath out. Walk slowly while doing this exercise. Repeat left and right.
This helps arthritis and circulation because the walk will make one hot, which clears the toxins from the joints. It is also good for co-ordination.
Monkey takes a walk
Stand in Ma Bu, lift right hand and touch Ya Men with fingers and left hand with He Gu touching Ming Men, while stepping forward with the left leg. Foot must touch down lightly on the outside edge, with Yong Chuan pointing out. Breath in. Put the left foot down flat on the ground, shifting the weight onto it, while dropping both hands down to the sides and forward. Breath out. Repeat opposite side.
By turning side to side, it helps stimulate the Ya Men and Ming Men points and strengthen the spine, shoulders and neck. Best to walk in a Ba Gua circle so that one can rake energy from all directions to help the heart, lungs, kidneys and spleen.
