Harmonising internal and external energies
- Horse stance, palms face in front by side of leg.
- Extend the arms out to the sides, palms facing each other – inhaling.
- Continue to raise arms in wide circle, palms facing each other, until hands reach head level – complete inhalation.
- Bring in the palms, forearms and elbows together in front by sides of temple – start exhaling.
- When palms and elbows are about six inches apart, bring them down in front of body - continue exhalation.
- Bring palms back to starting position – complete exhalation.
Earlobe and jaw rub down
- Grasp the earlobes with first and second fingers.
- Pull down firmly and continue rubbing down jawline. Repeat 24 times.
It helps draw energy down out of the head and pushes it down the front of the body towards the abdomen. According to TCM, all vital organs and glands have sensitive energy points located in the shells and lobes of the ears.
Back of head and neck rub down
- Rub down from the crown to the back of neck.
- Continue rubbing down side of neck and place other hand on the crown.
- Rub down head and neck with other hand.
- Continue rubbing down side of neck.
- Rub briskly down the back of head and neck, then down around side of neck to the collarbone in front. Alternate the palm immediately.
It draws excessive energy from the head and neck down towards the front of the body and into the torso and it sinks into the lower abdomen. It stimulates blood circulation and lymph flow in the neck, energises the nerves in the neck and provides a soothing massage to the muscles and tendons connecting head to shoulders. 36 times.
Tapping the celestial drums
- Cross index over middle finger.
- Snap index finger against jade pillow points on back of head.
Place palms firmly against the ears, creating and airtight seal over the ears. Cock the index finger over the middle fingers, then sharply snap the index fingers off the middle fingers and onto the back of the skull at the jade pillow point located at the base of the skull. It will cause a loud hollow that resonates through the skull and brain. 36 times.
It helps drive excess energy accumulated in the head during chi kung practice down into the chest, from where it sinks down into the lower tantien for storage. It also helps clear the mind of random thoughts and balances cerebral energy. Good to do before sitting meditation.
Rubbing the tantien
36 times clockwise and 36 times anti-clockwise. Repeat.
It helps draw energy from the head, chest and extremities into the naval region, then drives it into the lower tantien for storage. In the process, energy is balanced and condensed. It also helps digestion and other gastro intestinal functions.
Final conclusion – standing still in meditation posture
Relax, inhale and exhale for two to three minutes. Concentrate on tantien to settle down the chi.
