Code and conduct / rules / ethics
for Toh-dei / instructors / students
1) Should maintain a healthy balance of mind and body at all functions of KLWS, whether indoors or outdoors, eg clubs, pubs, restaurants, etc.
2) Should behave accordingly to other fellow Toh-deis of either sex. It is decent not to touch, hug, dance in a sexual or perverted manner with each other, especially if Toh-deis are not married or in a relationship. Respect someone else’s partner.
3) Should clean the kwoon at all times, when they see it needs to be done. This should be done without Shirfu or Shirmo’s request.
4) Should wear clean and ironed uniforms at all times.
5) Respect each other as kung fu brothers and sisters, without taking advantage of each other.
6) Should not interfere in Shirfu and Shirmo’s personal life and relationship. They are here to guide all of you, not to have Toh-deis interfere in their life.
7) Must understand that Shirfu and Shirmo are not here to be your personal friends (buddy) or to provide a shoulder to cry on, but as a guide and mentor for you to reach your goal of better martial arts, life and spiritual level, to create a better karmic path.
8) Should always be honest to one another, and especially to their loved ones.
9) Must always come and tell Shirfu and Shirmo if anyone finds that there is something wrong happening amongst one another or the school.
10) Must be able to help teach and uphold the HQ of KLWS without even thinking of getting compensated, unless Shirfu and Shirmo say so.
11) Do not doubt Shirfu’s ability of guiding all of you, as he has worked so hard to get to where he is now, as your humble teacher.
12) Do not interfere with Shirfu when he corrects you. If he sees that one of you are wrong, but you think it is right, it is his duty to show you the right way.
A Toh-dei should never question an instructor – just perform to the best of your ability.
13) We must not let ego overpower the mind and physical body.
14) We must help each other if you see that the other’s training is weak. Motivate each other.
15) At school functions, whether at the school or at outside venues, only senior students or people invited by Shifu or Shirmo sit at that table. Food and drink are to be offered to them and then in ranking of students. (do not flip the fish!)
16) Greet Shirfu and Shirmo and then fellow students. It is polite and custom to greet fellow students with the standard Shaolin greeting.
17) Toh-deis are to be a model for all students and should always maintain an approachable nature. This will encourage junior students to ask questions or research their kung fu. A Toh-dei should show respect and humility to all students and should be friendly and open hearted to show the effect of “in oneness”.
18) Toh-deis to understand that if they accept Toh-deiship, that it is a commitment made to Shirfu and all that KLWS stands for.
19) Good kung fu is respecting, understanding and training in the chosen martial art.
20) Toh-deis should feel that they are able to approach one another regarding any issue or concerns without fear of intimidation.
21) Friday evening training is compulsory for all Toh-deis, unless otherwise discussed with Shirfu. Toh-deis should be diligent and constant in his / her training.
22) No students / Toh-deis / instructors to enter into relationships with fellow
students / Toh-deis / instructors.
23) A Toh-dei must make Chinese philosophy a reality in their everyday life.
24) A Toh-dei should not let ego get in the way of better student relationships.
25) Those who misbehave badly or break these rules will be severely dealt with.
